About a year after establishing Agnello Market in Barnegat Light, the group of brothers who founded the business added a second business by opening Agnello’s on the Cove, located in Harvey Cedars at the corner of Camden Avenue and Long Beach Boulevard.
Matthew Agnello said the restaurant is currently open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday for takeout only.
The menu features a variety of their signature sandwiches. An example would be “The Agnello”, with 18-month-old imported prosciutto di parma, warm capicola, mild sopressata, provolone, dried oregano, and olive oil and vinegar on a 10 inch seeded semolina roll with tomato and shredded lettuce.
Agnello said the menu will be expanded. They hope to include smoothies and bowls, designed more for health-conscious people.
“There will be a lot of people walking and cycling near us, so we really want to cater to those who enjoy a healthy lifestyle,” he said.
Agnello said plans are also underway for indoor and outdoor dining.
“And as the weather gets warmer, we’ll add days and hours,” he said.
Besides Matthew, the other brothers involved in the business are Richard, Michael and Nicholas. And they all come from a variety of backgrounds. Matthew was a personal trainer, Richard was an electrician, Michael ran a farm and Nicholas has a degree in architecture.
“None of us have ever had experience running a restaurant,” Matthew said. “But we all grew up with a taste for fine dining.”
He said their parents had a “passion for cooking”.
“It never left us.” said Agnello. “We love food and we love making food for people. It brings happiness. It was amazing trying to accommodate everyone.
He said eventually Harvey Cedars customers will be able to try their coffees, soups, salads and various entrees.
“My brothers and I have always done very well together,” Matthew said. “We are super meticulous in our presentation and the cleanliness of our kitchens and just the way we do things. We really thought about it a lot. »
Harvey Cedars Mayor Jonathan Oldham said, “We are really happy to have them here at Harvey Cedars. They’ve done a great job with their Barnegat Light venue, and I’m sure they’ll have great success here too. We wish them the best.” —EE
